Roimata totoweka - iti
Totoweka Roimata.
Totoweka pounamu is a rare variety of kawakawa pounamu - named after the red splashes and flecks in the deeper and translucent green of the pounamu.
Roimata are often representative of empathy and compassion. I shaped these while the hīkoi mō te tiriti was being planned and prepared, and the many wānanga afterwards about the long-lasting relationship we have with our whenua (land) beyond that of any government term. Though we're only here for a blink in the eye of Papatuānuku, we still leave our mark like the splashes and flecks in this stone. These earrings speak about that awareness, and the caring that we carry, sometimes too heavily, about those marks we make as the teina (younger sibling) to the Weka.
